Dragon of Shandon

Every year the Artlink Cork Community puts together a majestic show to celebrate Samhain (or Halloween) called the 'Dragon Of Shandon'. Volunteers, artists, communities take to the streets of Shandon on Cork ’s Northside to walk with the Dragon as it travels between worlds in a celebration of the living and the dead accompanied by an assortment of creatures from the underworld.

In 2014, Dragon of Shandon was more than a parade but a 3 days festival involving even more groups and organisations.

I was involved to do some photography along the 3 days, and some behind-the-scene documentary work the day of the parade, where volunteers, dancers, singers or just porters of wicked structures were getting ready and waiting to be called to join the parade : exciting times, last rehearsal, ultimate moment for these folks to fix make up, check costumes, or even to for some DIY work due to non -collaborative bolt...

So yeah a fare share of stress for the organisation team but mainly some laughters from everyone, that I tried to convey here, just before going on "stage". You can also look at other photographers work who covered the event from the audience.

If you happen to be around next year, do not miss this event, it's one of these things that makes Cork so vibrant!
